About the journal

Intersticios is the scientific journal of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of the Universidad Católica de Salta, Argentina. It was founded in 2020 and is published under the EUCASA imprint (Ediciones Universidad Católica de Salta).

Aims and scope

Intersticios is an annual journal whose name plays with meanings between its definition—“the space that exists between two places or between two moments” (RAE)—and the possibility of inhabiting those spaces, fostering dialogue between everyday life and academic knowledge. Its main objective is to give visibility to topics in the social sciences and humanities and to provide a space for reflection on processes and representations that emerge in these interstices or fissures, which may reflect situations, events, and realities that escape a strictly academic perspective.

Intersticios also addresses issues related to teaching, professional practice, ethics and values, and the interrelations between the social sciences and politics, culture, economy, society, and the environment.

Sections

The journal includes the following sections:

• Editorial.

• Scientific articles.

• Reflections on professional practice.

• Debate.

• Intersticios in action.

• Thesis or final integration work (undergraduate or postgraduate).

• Book reviews.

As an editorial policy, the journal promotes and encourages the participation of authors and members of the editorial team who are not affiliated with the University or its related academic units.

Authorship – responsibility

Authors are solely responsible for the opinions expressed in their texts and for respecting intellectual property rights.

Authors also declare compliance with international standards regarding conflicts of interest and ethical guidelines for research and the publication of academic and scientific material.

Plagiarism policy

The collaboration of editors, authors, and reviewers of this journal, as well as the ethical guidance of its editorial processes, is governed by the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

All manuscripts submitted to this publication are screened through online searches and plagiarism detection software.

In cases of total or partial plagiarism, or if the manuscript has already been published by the same author, the journal will not publish the submission.

If a published article is reported for plagiarism or ethical misconduct, it will be temporarily removed from the website and the author will be notified so that they may exercise their right of defense. The publishing institution will decide accordingly. If the decision is unfavorable to the author, the article will not be included in the issue; otherwise, it will be reinstated.

Digital preservation

This journal uses the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archive of its content, ensuring the generation of replicas. Server-level actions and backup, preservation, and archiving policies are also implemented to guarantee the reconstruction of the entire journal collection and the preservation of each published digital item. Automated background processes (CRON) are managed to generate full backups of the OJS database and article repository, which are deposited in external digital storage services.

Editorial process (peer review)

Editors conduct an initial evaluation of submitted contributions based on criteria of originality, relevance, structure, and compliance with editorial guidelines (see author guidelines). Submissions that meet the established requirements are assigned to external reviewers for scientific evaluation, thus fulfilling the peer review process. A double-blind peer review method is applied in all cases. As a result of one or more rounds of evaluation, submissions may receive the following decisions: accepted for publication, accepted with revisions, or rejected.

Publication fees

The journal does not charge any fees for access to the full text of its issues and articles, nor for manuscript submission, evaluation, processing of accepted articles, or publication.

Databases and indexing

Intersticios maintains a policy of continuous editorial management review by accredited organizations to ensure quality and compliance with guidelines and standards. Accordingly, applications are submitted to evaluation, indexing, and dissemination services.
