This review examines Pablo Gerchunoff's La demora y la prisa. Historia de los (des)equilibrios sociales argentinos through the notion of social equilibrium that organizes its interpretation of Argentine history between 1810 and 2023. It discusses a periodization that displaces the conventional breaks of economic history in favour of agreements of coexistence and the coalitions sustaining them. From a situated reading, three limitations are identified: what the framework adds to earlier traditions, the decision not to rank the hypotheses on decline, and the territorial scale of the analysis.
