Declaración de uso de IA
Statement on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
With the aim of strengthening transparency, academic integrity, and trust in published results, the journal Intersticios establishes this policy on the use of tools and technologies based on Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Scope of the statement
The use of AI systems, especially those with generative functions (language models, image generators, data assistants, or other automated algorithms), must be disclosed by authors, reviewers, and editors.
This statement applies to any stage of the research and publication process, including:
- Writing, proofreading, or editing of texts.
- Data analysis, processing, or visualization.
- Preparation of figures, illustrations, tables, or other visual materials.
- Literature review or automated generation of summaries.
Authors’ responsibility
The use of AI tools does not replace authorship or the intellectual responsibility of those submitting an article.
Authors must accurately and verifiably report which tools were used, for what purpose, and under which criteria their outputs were accepted or discarded.
This information must be included in an AI Use Statement, which must be submitted at the time of manuscript submission and will be reviewed by the responsible editor.
Substantial generation of academic content through AI without human supervision and critical validation is not permitted.
Any consequences arising from the use of these technologies—including errors, biases, omissions, or ethical violations—remain the sole responsibility of the authors.
Transparency and record
The AI use statement must be attached to the initial submission of the article. The Editorial Board may decide to publish it alongside the article, in accordance with the journal’s transparency policies.
The record must specify the name and version of the tool, its function within the workflow, and the degree of intervention in the manuscript.
Even when the use is limited (e.g., grammar correction, translation of excerpts, or stylistic adjustments), it must be disclosed.
Ethical principles and good practices
The use of AI must comply with international principles of scientific and editorial ethics. Intersticios adheres to the statements and reference frameworks of the Committee on Publication Ethics, UNESCO and Heredia Declaration.
The following practices will be considered inappropriate:
- Automatic generation of nonexistent references or citations.
- Manipulation of images or data in order to alter results.
- Failure to disclose the use of AI tools at any stage of the process.
Peer review and evaluation
Reviewers must disclose whether they use AI as support in their task (for example, to detect similarities or summarize information), and under no circumstances may they delegate responsibility for the academic judgment to an automated system.
Data protection and confidentiality
Introducing unpublished, sensitive, or confidential data into AI systems without the explicit authorization of co-authors and the Editorial Board is prohibited.
Sanctions
Misuse or concealment of the use of AI will be considered a serious ethical breach. It may result in rejection of the manuscript, retraction of a published article, and/or notification of the misconduct to the relevant institutions.
