El Christian Testimony at University Level
Abstract
Why does the process of educating young people not yield results positively? Why are the attempts to change and restate the contents, strategies, resources, etc. not reflected in an enhancement in education? Education is perhaps mistaken for transmission of information; education for sheer professional training. The questions that arise when the education issue is addressed are numerous. Questions that seek an answer to the impossibility of transmitting a human and civilization knowledge which seems to have lost its meaning even for the one interested in imparting it and yet more for the recipient of that cultural and human legacy.
This paper aims to explore the deep sense of the education phenomenon starting from understanding education as the «introduction to the totality of what is real», related to the individual himself, existential and life lasting. This process acquires its deepest and full meaning in the religious dimension of experience and when the educator is the Master Teacher at the heart of the Church.
The consequences that derive from the gradual secularization of contemporary life are made clear: reductionism, fragmentation, dissociation from reality and others, loss of the human relations inherent in the spiritual subject.
In the concluding synthesis, the importance of the personal dimension of education is raised, not only in the interpersonal relationship among teachers and between them and students, but also in the dimension of the whole human person involved in this process.
