Through ancient roads and lost towns
Management Guidelines for the Revaluation of the Archaeological Heritage of the Pasaje River Basin, a Historic Region in Salta
Abstract
We acknowledge in this territory, as a scenario in which both nature and culture converge –in our case study the Pasaje or Juramento river basin–, a range of patrimonial assets interacting as a system. From an integral perspective, these resources may be employed as tools for the environmental and social development of the region; for this reason, the historical processes are synthetized by emphasizing the archaeological heritage of the Spanish foundation of cities, fortresses and reductions along with the road networks that linked them. Studies of such patrimonial referents have generated new management guidelines, as tools meant to be transferred to the government which may contribute to the planning processes with sustainable territorial policies, whose strategies may help generate the desirable local development from their economic, social and cultural dimensions.
