El Recycling as sustainable practice in architecture
Abstract
Many cities are currently on the brink of an environmental and social crisis that puts their sustainability at risk. This because of the dominant urban growth model that led to the excessive consumption of non-renewable natural resources, which forces us to question the future of cities and rethink urban-architectural practice together with the training process of new professional cadres. The article discusses how architectural recycling constitutes a sustainable commitment to the depletion of the build-abandon-destroy-build scheme. The way in which architectural recycling is incorporated into the curriculum of the degree in Architecture at Universidad La Salle, México, is presented, together with some of the results achieved since its implementation in the 2015 curriculum.
