Digital twins for project management
Abstract
The tools of specialists in the fields of design, planning, management, and construction are also evolving. Consequently, the methodologies, materials used to transform space, and the technology employed are impacted by advances. Therefore, to improve construction methodologies and implement precision in interventions, it is important to stay up-to-date on mixed reality, point clouds, and project management. Point clouds as digital twins are relevant for the administration, monitoring, and, in the future, for the transformation and maintenance of space with the implementation of the construction information management (CIM) methodology. The visualization and recording of digital twins are an efficient tool for measuring each real construction element and performing counts of the constructed elements, as well as for recording the specifications of each construction discipline (facilities, structure, and furniture). The topographic layout of the Uruapan Cablebús (Cablebús) in Michoacán, Mexico, and the scanning of a typical Constituyentes Cablebús station are presented as a case study. The results are presented as part of the information management methodology obtained with state-of-the-art topography and scanning equipment.
